It’s a sad day for swimming pool contractors in Northern California and in particular in the Sacramento Metropolitan area. We are sad for the many homeowners that have once again been left holding the bag with unfinished work left by another swimming pool construction company. We know times are tough, but this really hurts.

We have been serving Sacramento homeowners since 1989. We too have been left holding the bag. This sort of thing hurts the entire industry.

If you are one of the unlucky homeowners with unfinished work, we are working on coming up with a special arrangement with our suppliers to help. Updates will be coming shortly.

Erik Johnson is your local pool tile installation, repair and restoration company. By keeping our overhead to the minimum, we provide the most cost effective and affordable pool tile, pool coping and more.

We have been providing these services to homeowners for over 30 years. Our business has been mostly referral based from our contractors and past customers.

We provide the following services:

Pool tile replacement: From step tiles, skimmers, waterline tile and mosaics, we repair or replace broken, missing and cracked tiles.

Pool coping repairs: Do you have a chipped or missing piece(s) of coping. We can typically repair to like new condition for a fraction of the cost of total replacement.

Pool coping expansion joint replacement: Sun faded, shrinking and missing expansion joint material, commonly known as Deck-O-Seal can be removed and replaced in typically a couple of hours leaving you with a new and water tight seal.

Pool joint replacement: Over time, the pool joint between the pool deck’s edge and the waterline tile cracks or there are areas that have fallen out, leaving you with an unsightly gap between your pool’s tile and deck. We can remove and replace this strip leaving you with a UV protected silicone joint compound and returning your pool wall integrity to a like new condition.

Pool tile grout repair and restoration: Does your pool have missing grout between the tiles? Does your pool have that “70’s” look with the white grout and dark tile? We can remove and replace the grout to a like new condition. ***NOTE*** this procedure is highly dependent on your pool tile’s condition. Let our years of experience and knowledge assess your pool tile’s integrity to determine whether you are a candidate for this service.

Rock Waterfall Mortar Repairs: Do you have a leaking waterfall? Many times the mortar holding your natural boulders will shrink and crack over time. We can reinstall the exposed mortar to provide a better seal for the rock. In other cases, we can apply high tech sealants to seal these porous surfaces. With the many options available to us, there is a good chance that we will be able to help or eliminate these problems.

Deck Drain Repair: Do you have unsightly or broken deck drain covers? We can remove and replace the broken or missing pieces with new materials. There will be times, when the deck drain can not be repaired, in those instances, our only other option is to remove and replace the entire deck drain.

Skimmer Lid Cover Replacement: While this is not worth the call to have us come out and replace the skimmer lids alone, you might want to consider having us replace your covers if we are doing other repairs to your pool. One idea is to have us replace those old outdated white covers with the new colored lids. This is especially a good idea for those of you with stained or colored concrete.

By Anthony J Ventura

So, you are have decided to have a new swimming pool built and the contractor has presented you with the different options.

Of course the size is the first decision and this usually determined by your budget and the available area in your yard.

The shape of available yard space may also influence the shape. Functionally, how are you going to use the pool?

Do you want to be able to swim laps for excursive?

Do you want to just have refreshing water hole to jump in a cool off?

Do you like to have neighborhood World Series water polo matches?

Would you like a built in Jacuzzi, or a vanishing edge, where the water spills over the side and is collected in a trough and recirculated?

All of the options above are some of the choices that a homeowner has to decide upon.

When you think about it there are really are not that many options to choose from as your budget and lot size are determining factors.

However there is one thing that you do have a lot of different choices for and that is the pool tile for the waterline.

Normally your pool contractor will present you with sample tile boards and if you have checked out other pools you have probably noticed that many of them look similar.

Why not create your own special look for your waterline tile.

There are many mosaic tiles in the market place today that can be incorporated into your own special design.

Some manufactures have software programs that will let you choose your own colors and the percentage of each tile used in the blend you create.

Many homeowners find this very appealing as you can have a waterline tile that is truly unique.

Glass tile is probably the best tile to select for a custom designed mosaic blend.

There are so many colors and styles to choose from it are easy to come up with something unique.

There is no maintenance with glass tile as it is impervious to staining and will look the same forever.

If you have a bit more to spend, a very creative waterline pool tile is granite.

Over the last few years we have incorporated slab granite in place of waterline tile.

A slab of granite is selected and cut into five or six-foot lengths by six inches wide and then these are installed with cement under the pool coping.

The pool finishers then apply the finish pool coat flush to the bottom edge of the granite.

When there are radius corners involved the granite is cut in smaller pieces to make and fitted to conform to the pool radius corners.

This is a very unique look that you will not see in your neighborhood swimming pools.

The look is that of one continuous line of stone, that color grouted correctly has no grout joints.

This slab technique cannot be implemented using marble.

Marble is too soft and will loose its color and shine after a few years of the sun beating down on it, while granite is not affected because of its hard volcanic make up.

So, when you are deciding on what waterline tile to use for you’re new pool or pool up grade remember, you do not have to be limited by the everyday waterline tile that is presented to you.

Anthony J. Ventura is a award winning tile and marble designer in South Florida. If you would like to design your own unique swimming pool tile visit: http://www.pooltileworld.com

Erik Johnson Tile offers our customers a complete line of the latest and most fashionable designs of swimming pool and spa tiles.

Swimming pool tile can provide subtle detail or an eye catching display of colors and textures. Weather you have a small sized inground pool installed or a large one, there are thousands of different options available. By varying different types of pool tile, like the shapes, colors, and styles, there are millions of different styles to choose from. Though your inground swimming pool does not need to be decorated with tiles, it is preferred to truly customize your swimming pool. The proper choice of tiling can add a beautiful custom look and tie your swimming pool together. Tiling of the swimming pool begins after the plaster or pebble tech has been applied to the concrete shell of the pool. The first top set of tiles is set into place along with the subsequent layers.
